The settlement was recognized in 1951 as Markelesi and was annexed to the Stefaniada community of the Karditsa prefecture. In 1957 it was renamed Aetochori. With the Government Gazette 244A - 04/12/1997 it was detached from the Stefaniada community and annexed to the Athamane community. With the Government Gazette 87A - 07/06/2010 it was detached from the community of East Argithea and annexed to the municipality of Argithea.[2]
Sights
The Monastery of Kostis southeast of the settlement. It is a disbanded monastery built on the banks of the Kambourgianitikos (Petriliotis) river and dedicated to the Nativity of the Virgin Mary. Its name is Kostis or Kostis monastery and not Kostis, as is incorrectly stated, and, according to an inscription on its catholicon, it was founded in 1759 by the monks Daniel, Theoktistos and Parthenios. Today, only its catholicon survives, which is a cross-roofed basilica with a dome and lateral choirs. It has remarkable frescoes and a wood-carved iconostasis. According to tradition, Georgios Karaiskakis had visited it.
