Charis (or Chari) is a mountainous village in Thessaly and the Regional Unit of Karditsa.[1][2]
Geographical - Historical information
Chari is built on the southeastern slopes of Mount Voutsikaki of Agrafa at an altitude of 1,080 meters[3] and is one of the most mountainous settlements in Thessaly. It is approximately 59 km. from Karditsa, 32 km. SE. from Anthiro (seat of the municipality) and 1.5 km. (by road) SE. from Petrilo. Its inhabitants are mainly engaged in agriculture and livestock farming. A landmark of the village is the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary (1885)[4] "It is a cross-shaped church with a dome dating from the late 17th century or early 18th century", designated since 1985 as a historical monument.[5]
It was officially mentioned as a separate settlement for the first time in 1961 with the name Krania being registered in the then community of Petrilo and in 1963 in the Official Gazette 91A - 13/06/1963 being renamed to Haris.[6] According to the "Kallikratis" Program, together with Petrilo, Argyreika, Polydroso, Vasilades, Chalkiopoulo and Rossi, they constitute the community of Petrilo, which falls under the municipal unit of East Argithea of the Municipality of Argithea, while according to the 2011 census, 48 residents were registered.[7]
