Aetochori (Αετοχώρι) Evros

Aetochori is a lowland village of Thrace in the Evros regional unit at an altitude of 80 meters[2].

Geography - History

Aetochori is located 13 km. NE. of Alexandroupolis between the villages of Doriko (NW), Loutros (SE), Aristinos (S) and Agnantia (SW). On the north side of the village, since 1992, there has been the male monastery of Agios Ioannis Theologos.[3] It is officially mentioned as a settlement, after the liberation, in 1924 in the Government Gazette 194A-14/08/1924, annexed to the then community of Nipsi.[4] According to the Kallikratis Plan, administratively, together with Dorikon, they form the local community of Dorikon, which belongs to the municipal unit of Traianoupolis of the Municipality of Alexandroupolis and according to the 2011 census has a population of 81 inhabitants[5].
