Petrochori (Πετροχώριον) Karditsa
Petrochori is a settlement in Thessaly and the Regional Unit of Karditsa.[1] It is built at an altitude of 1,100 meters on the slopes of Mount Kourliaka of Agrafa[2] and is one of the most mountainous settlements in Thessaly. Petrochori belongs to the Municipality of Argithea and its population according to the 2021 census is 85 inhabitants.
Its old name from the period of Turkish rule is Spyrelo and this is how it is officially mentioned in 1883, after the unification of Thessaly, in the Government Gazette 126A - 02/04/1883 to be annexed to the municipality of Argithea. In 1947, with the Government Gazette 9A - 16/01/1947, it was designated as the seat of the newly founded community of the same name and in 1957 with the Government Gazette 253A - 14/12/1957, it was renamed Petrochori.[3]
The residents are mainly engaged in agriculture and livestock farming.
