Metamorfosi is a mountainous village of Karditsa at an altitude of 930 meters[2].
Geography - Sights

Metamorfosi of Anthiro or Argithea is located on the northwestern borders of the prefecture of Karditsa with the prefecture of Trikala. It is 5 km. N.-N.W. of Anthiro, which is the seat of the municipality, and 70.5 km. W. of Karditsa. The old name of the village was Katousi[3] and it is built in a calm and beautiful natural environment. There are stone-built furnished apartments, two catering centers at the location "Palios Mylos" at the entrance of the village and in the center of the village[4].

Holy Monastery of the Nativity of the Virgin

An important attraction is the Holy Monastery of the Nativity of the Virgin, located between Metamorfosi and the settlement of Lagadi, and since 1983 it has been classified as a historical monument[5]. The monastery has been renovated and from the old monastery, which is estimated to have been built around 1600, the catholicon, parts of the cells and the enclosure have been preserved. Inside it there was an elaborate iconostasis, which is kept in the Ecclesiastical - Historical - Folklore Museum of the village[4]. The catholicon consists of two parts: the lower part, which is an Athonite-style church dedicated to the Nativity of the Virgin Mary, decorated with frescoes from the mid-17th century, and the upper part, which is a twin church with the northern part dedicated to the Zoodochos Pigi and the southern part to Agioi Anargyroi[5].

Administrative

The village with its old name Katousi is officially mentioned in 1951 as being annexed to the then community of Anthiro. It was renamed Metamorfosis in 1957[6]. According to the Kallikratis plan, it belongs to the local community of Anthiro, which falls under the municipal unit of Argithea of the municipality of Argithea[7] and according to the 2011 census has a population of 105 inhabitants[8].
