Vamvakies (Βαμβακιές ) Evrytania
Vamvakies is a semi-mountainous village in the prefecture of Evrytania, which is built on the western slopes of Mount Chelidonas at an altitude of 460 meters[2].
Geography - History
Vamvakies is located on the border of the prefecture with the prefecture of Aitoloakarnania, on the western banks of Krikeliotis and to the southeast of the artificial lake of Kremasta. It is 35 km. SE. from Karpenisi, 63 km. NW. from Agrinio and 1.5 km. SW. from Agia Vlacherna[3]. It was recognized as a settlement in 1940 and was annexed to the then community of Agia Vlacherna[4]. According to the Kallikrates plan, together with Agia Vlacherna and Ampelia, they constitute the local community of Agia Vlacherna, which belongs to the municipal unit of Karpenisi of the municipality of Karpenisi and according to the 2011 census has a permanent population of 56 residents[5].
