Papparousi or Paparousi is a mountainous village in the prefecture of Evrytania at an altitude of 700 meters[2].

Geography - History

Papparousi is located on the slopes of Tymfristos, east of the Tavropos River and 24 km. from Karpenisi to the west[3]. During the Ottoman period, it was listed among the "Politochoria", that is, the villages around Tymfristos whose inhabitants had relations (commercial, technical, migration for work and children's studies, etc.) with Constantinople (City). It is believed that it was from there that the knowledge of silkworm breeding and silk production came to the region. The name Paparousi (papa + rousos), according to some, comes from the red mulberries that were cultivated (rousos = red) for the production of silkworms. The mulberry trees still exist today and the residents produce an alcoholic drink called "moro" from them. Sights of the village are the church of Agia Paraskevi (festival on July 26) built in 1885, the "Giannoyaneva" fountain from 1896 and the old stone bridges[4].
Administrative

In 1836 the settlement was designated as the seat of the municipality of Politichoria and in 1919 the community of Paparousi was established. Until 1940 it was officially written as Paparousi, when it was corrected to Paparousion[5]. According to the Kallikratis plan, together with West Paparousi, they form the local community of Paparousi, which belongs to the municipal unit of Karpenisi of the Municipality of Karpenisi and according to the 2011 census, has a population of 34 residents as a community, while 12 as a settlement[6].
