Koryschades (Κορυσχάδες) Evrytania

Koryschades is a village and local community in the Municipality of Karpenisi, Evrytania Prefecture. It is located 5 kilometers southwest of Karpenisi[1], at an altitude of 940 meters.[1] In 1955 it was renamed Kypseli[2], a name it retained until 1965[3], when it was renamed again. At the 2011 census, it had an actual population of 44 inhabitants.

History

The village is associated with the history of the National Resistance. The reason is that during World War II, after secret pan-Hellenic elections, the National Council, which consisted of representatives of most regions of Greece, met in this village. The holding of the elections was decided and announced by the Political Committee of National Liberation (PEEA), the so-called government of the mountains, which had been formed at the initiative of the EAM in March 1944. More than a million Greeks took part in the elections and 250 national councilors were elected, from a wide range of backgrounds.

The sessions of the National Council were attended by five university professors, two metropolitans, eight generals, twenty civil servants, five industrialists, ten journalists, fifteen doctors, twenty-five lawyers, twenty-three farmers, ten high school teachers, twenty-two workers, etc. 41 representatives were elected from Attica and Euboea, 14 from Epirus, 22 from Thessaly, 38 from Macedonia, 21 from Sterea, 44 from Peloponnese and others from other regions. The first congress of the National Council was held on 7 May 1944 and on 27 May its program was voted [1] in which the declaration is proposed:

The National Council, formed by representatives of the entire Greek people who have gathered to proclaim their indomitable will to fight until their last breath for the liberation of the Country, the complete crushing of fascism and the restoration of national unity and popular sovereignty

and determines with its resolution, consisting of 15 articles, the manner of exercising all powers in Free Greece.[4]
