Ano Kalesmeno, Evrytania

Ano Kalesmeno is a mountainous settlement in the prefecture of Evrytania at an altitude of 600 meters[2], which is located on the national road Karpenisi - Agrinio, 14 km. west of Karpenisi and 5 km. from Kalesmeno[3]. It was recognized as a settlement in 1951 and was annexed to the then community of Kalesmeno[4]. According to the Kallikratis plan, together with Kalesmeno, Aroniada and Monastiraki, it constitutes the local community of Kalesmeno, which belongs to the municipal unit of Karpenisi of the Municipality of Karpenisi and according to the 2011 census has a population of only 4 inhabitants[5]. The main reason for the desertification of the village was the relocation of its inhabitants to the area of ​​Kalesmeno, at a lower altitude (600 meters) and more fertile lands, where they also had their fields.
