Fidakia (Φιδάκια ) Evrytania
Fidakia is a village in the prefecture of Evrytania, in the municipality of Karpenisi. It is built at an altitude of 960 meters on the slopes of Mount Chelidonas.[1] The settlement stands out for its elegant houses and for its urban form that stands out from the other settlements in the area. For the above reasons, it is a declared traditional settlement.
The origin of the name is unknown. It is also found (until 1940) as Fidakia.[2] At the highest point of the settlement, remains of an ancient settlement are visible. According to one view, the area was home to Ancient Oichalia, the capital of Evrytania.[3]
Fidakia experienced a large population decline during the 1950s and 1960s due to mass immigration of residents to America. In recent years, the population has been restrained due to the tourist development of Evrytania and amounts to 27 residents, according to the 2011 census[4].
