Kalesmeno is located east of the Tavropos River (Megdova), near the Karpenisi - Agrinio national road and is 22 km. W.-NW. from Karpenisi[3]. It was built by residents of Ano Kalesmeno who initially had their fields in the area but gradually moved to lower altitude and more fertile lands with rich vegetation and plenty of water. The village is famous for the production of alcoholic beverages and liqueurs from berries and every year at the end of July a "berry festival" is held[4]. It was recognized as a community in 1912 with the Government Gazette 261A-31/08/1912, it originally belonged to the prefecture of Aitoloakarnania and the seat of the community was the settlement[5]. According to the Kallikratis plan, together with Ano Kalesmeno, Aroniada and Monastiraki, it constitutes the local community of Kalesmeno, which belongs to the municipal unit of Karpenisi of the Municipality of Karpenisi and according to the 2011 census, as a community it has a population of 97 residents and as a settlement 77[6].
