Gardiki (Γαρδίκι ) Fthiotida
Gardiki is a village in the Regional Unit of Fthiotida, in the Region of Central Greece. It is 25 km from Sperchiada (seat of the municipality) and 56 km from Lamia. Administratively, it belongs to the Community of Gardiki, of the Municipal Unit of Sperchiada and is under the Municipality of Makrakomi.[1]
Geographical information
Gardiki is a mountainous village in the Prefecture of Fthiotida. It is located in the southwestern part of the prefecture, on the slopes of Vardoussia, built at an altitude of 1025 meters.[2] Administratively, it belongs to the Municipality of Makrakomi and its population is 353 inhabitants, according to the 2011 Census.
In the past, because there were two settlements in Fthiotida with the name Gardiki (today one has been renamed Pelasgia), it was referred to as Gardiki of Omilaion, from the former Municipality of Omilaion, to which it belonged and of which it was the seat.[3]

Gardiki with 353 inhabitants, together with the settlements of Koutsoufliani with 66 inhabitants and Koureleika[4] with 35 inhabitants, constitute the Community of Gardiki, Fthiotida, with a total population of 454 inhabitants, according to the 2011 Census.[5]
Population evolution
Gardiki, Omilaion, Fthiotida, was a large village with a population exceeding 1,000 inhabitants, however, since the 1950s, its population began to decline, following a similar course to most mountainous villages in Greece.
