Kato Kallithea (Κάτω Καλλιθέα) Fthiotida
Kato Kallithea is a semi-mountainous village of Central Greece in the Regional Unit of Fthiotida[1].
Geography-history
Kato Kallithea is located in the Sperchios valley and the eastern foothills of Mount Goulinas at an altitude of 180 meters.[2] It is 3 km. E. from Sperchiada (seat of the municipality) 7 km. SE. from Makrakomi, 30 km. W. from Lamia and . North of the village is Mesopotamia and Sperchios, east is the tributary of Inachos, next to and southeast is Agios Sostis.
Administrative
It is officially mentioned in 1835 that it was annexed to the then municipality of Sperchiada. In 1912, with the Government Gazette 261A - 31/08/1912, it was designated as the seat of the newly founded community of the same name. In 1915, with the Government Gazette 98A - 14/03/1915, it was initially renamed Kallithea Sperchiados and finally in 1940 to Kallithea.[3] According to the "Kallikratis" Program, together with Ano Kallithea, it forms the local community of Kallithea Sperchiados, which falls under the municipal unit of Sperchiados of the Municipality of Makrakomi and according to the 2011 census, as a community it has a population of 242 residents while as a settlement it has 157.[4]
