Anatoli is a mountainous village in the prefecture of Fthiotida. It is built at an altitude of 1,200 meters[1] on the northern slopes of Vardoussia and is one of the most mountainous settlements in the prefecture. Until 1927 it was called Pera Homeriani (or Homeriani or Homeriani).[2]

Name

There are two versions regarding the original name of the settlement: according to the first, it came from the Ottoman tsiflika Humir who owned the area while according to another theory, the name Homeriani comes from Homeri of Nafpaktia, whose inhabitants settled in the village.[3]

History

During the Ottoman Empire, Pera Homeriani was an Ottoman manor, while the 1834-1836 census found 28 families and 113 residents in the village.[3] In 1835, it was subordinated to the municipality of Kallio by royal decree, while in 1841 it was transferred to the municipality of Ypatis. In 1912, it was the seat of the homonymous community of the province of Phthiotis, while in 1946, with the division of the prefectures of Phthiotis and Phocis, it was transferred to the prefecture of Phthiotis. During the 1940s, Anatoli was severely tested as it was destroyed twice (first during the Occupation and later during the Civil War[3]), resulting in the residents abandoning it for some years (characteristically, in the 1951 census no permanent residents were found in Anatoli[1]). In 1997, as part of the administrative reform of the Kapodistrias plan, the community was abolished and annexed to the municipality of Sperchiada. Since 2011, it has been part of the Kallikratian municipality of Makrakomi.

The Greek mountaineer and writer Kostas Tsivelekas was born in Anatoli.[4][5]
