Xechoro (Ξέχωρο) Thesprotia
Xechoro (formerly Xechoro Demi) is a settlement in the municipality of Filiates[1] in the region of Epirus (Kallikratis Plan).[2]
General information
Xechoro formerly belonged to the former province of Filiates in the prefecture of Thesprotia. From 1999 to 2010, according to the then administrative division of Greece, it was the seat of a community of the municipality of Filiates. Since 1 January 2011, it has been the seat of the homonymous local community, the municipal unit of Filiates, of the homonymous Municipality.[1]
It is located 17 km northeast of Filiates on the northern slope of Mount Farmakovouni at an altitude of approximately 422 meters.[3] It is a village, whose population, mainly engaged in small-scale livestock farming and less in agriculture, in 1928 numbered 288 residents, with a primary school and a post office. In 2021, the village numbered 18 residents.[4]
Ecclesiastically, it belongs to the Metropolis of Paramythia, Filiates, Giromeri and Parga. The village's church is dedicated to Saints Constantine and Helen.[5]
The village's previous name, until 1927, was Xechoro-Demi or Xechoro.Demi.
