Platanos (Πλάτανος) Thesprotia
Platanos[1] (formerly "Achouria Vavouriou"[2]) is a settlement in the municipality of Filiates in the Regional Unit of Thesprotia (Kallikratis Plan).
General information
Platanos formerly belonged to the former province of Filiates in the prefecture of Thesprotia. From 1999 to 2010, according to the then administrative division of Greece, it was the seat of a community of the municipality of Filiates. Since 1 January 2011, it has been the seat of the homonymous local community, the municipal unit of Filiates, of the homonymous
Municipality.[2]
It is located approximately 20 km NE of Filiates, after Agioi Pantes towards Anavrytos in the mountainous massif of Megali Rachi and at an altitude of 250 meters[3]. It is a mountainous village, whose population, mainly engaged in small-scale livestock farming and less in agriculture, in 1971 numbered 56 residents, in 1981 it was 42 while in 2001 it numbered 35 residents while in 2021 it has 7[4].
Ecclesiastically it belongs to the Metropolis of Paramythia, Filiates, Giromeri and Parga. The village's church is dedicated to Agia Marina.[5]
The village's previous name was "Achouria Vavouriou". In 1965 it was renamed "Platanos".
