Anavryto (Αναβρυτό ) Thesprotia
Anavrytos, or Anavryto, is a small Greek mountain village in the municipality of Filiates[1] in the Epirus region (Kallikratis Plan).
General information
Anavrytos formerly belonged to the prefecture of Thesprotia, in the former province of Filiates. From 1999 to 2010, according to the then administrative division of Greece, it was the seat of a community of the municipality of Filiates. Since 1 January 2011, it has been the seat of the homonymous local community, the municipal unit of Filiates, of the homonymous Municipality.[1]
It is located NE. of Filiates and SE. of Mount Megali Rachi, at an altitude of 540 meters. Its population in 1981 was 25 inhabitants and in 2001 it numbered 22 inhabitants. The local community of Anavrytos is classified as a rural mountainous settlement, with an area of 9,140 km² (2011).[2] Ecclesiastically it belongs to the Metropolis of Paramythia, Filiates, Giromeri and Parga. The village church is dedicated to the Holy Apostles.[3]
Etymologically the name "anavrytos" means one who gushs water.
