General and historical information
Agios Prokopios is located on the western border with the Regional Unit of Aitoloakarnania, north of the artificial lake of Kremasta and west of the Agrafiotis River. It is 15 kilometers W. from Kerasochori (seat of the municipality) and 54 km. NW[3]. from Karpenisi. The village was created by the relocation of the residents of Palaiokatouna (or Paleokatounou) which was located further north and at a higher altitude (800 m) after the strong earthquake of 1966 (6.2 Richter) that struck the area.[5]
It was first mentioned as a separate settlement in 1971 in Government Gazette 53A - 16/03/1971, where it was designated as the seat of the pre-existing community of Palaiokatouna. According to the Kallikratis plan, together with Tsoukka and Ampares, they form the local community of Paleokatouna, which belongs to the municipal unit of Fragistas of the Municipality of Agrafa.
