Mesiano (Μεσιανό) Kilkis
Mesiano is a lowland village of Kilkis at an altitude of 140 meters[1].
Geography - History
Mesiano is located 10 km. SW. of the city of Kilkis and 47 km. N.-N.W. of Thessaloniki[2], between the villages of Leventochori and Paleo Gynaikokastro. It is built near the Thessaloniki - Kilkis national road. The old name of the village, from the time of the Turkish occupation, was Dourasanli or Dourasanli and is mentioned in 1919 in the Government Gazette 48A-05/03/1919 to be the seat of the homonymous community that then belonged to the prefecture of Thessaloniki. It was renamed Mesiano in 1927 and in 1934 it was transferred to the then newly established prefecture of Kilkis[3]. According to the Kallikratis program, together with Dafnohori, Leventochori and Paleo Gynaikokastro, it forms the local community of Messianos, which belongs to the municipal unit of Kilkis of the municipality of Kilkis and, according to the 2011 census, as a community it has a population of 724 permanent residents, while as a settlement 128[4].
