Leipsydrio (Λειψύδριο) Kilkis

Leipsydrio is a village in the prefecture of Kilkis, in the municipality of Kilkis at an altitude of 260 meters[1].

Geography - History

Leipsydrio is located 13 km. SE. of Kilkis and 42 km. N. of Thessaloniki[2]. The Xiropotamos River flows south of the village. Its inhabitants are refugees from the village of Sindiskom in the Ardahan-Kars region of the Caucasus as well as from the Havza region of Pontus and Eastern Thrace. The inhabitants are engaged in agricultural work. The former Mayor of Polichni, Petros Myridis, comes from Leipsidrio. A large number of the village's inhabitants moved to urban centers and today live in settlements in the city. The old name of the village, from the time of the Turkish occupation until 1927, was Geni Machale[3].

Administrative

According to the Kallikratis program, together with the villages of Akropotamia, Ano Potamia and Kato Potamia, they constitute the local community of Leipsydrio, which belongs to the municipal unit of Kilkis of the municipality of Kilkis and according to the 2011 census, as a community it has a population of 304 residents, while as a settlement 51[4]. In the last census of 2001 it had 121 residents.

The municipal district of Leipsydrio

According to the Kapodistrias plan, the municipal district of Leipsidri was one of the ten municipal districts of the municipality of Kilkis. It included, in addition to the homonymous village, the villages of Akropotamia, Ano Potamia and Kato Potamia. It was formerly the seat of the Community of Leipsidri -which included all the villages of the current municipal district of Leipsydrio- where there was also the community store which is now used by the municipality of Kilkis for the needs of the municipal district.
