Kryopigi (Κρυοπηγή) Arta
Kryopigi is a settlement in Epirus in the Regional Unit of Arta.[1][2]
General information
Kryopigi is located towards the border with the Regional Unit of Ioannina on the slopes of Tzoumerka at an altitude of 1,100 meters.[1] It is approximately 37 km. NW. from Voulgareli (seat of the municipality), 55 km. N.-NE. from Arta and 63 km. SE. from Ioannina. Southwest of the village is the settlement of Katarraktis, which is considered a settlement, while to the northeast and at a higher altitude (approximately 1,360 meters) are the "Twin Waterfalls of Tzoumerka", a natural attraction of the area[3].
It was first officially mentioned in 1940 as being in the then community of Katarraktis under its old name Moutsiara. In 1954, with the Government Gazette 101A - 24/05/1954, it was renamed Kryopigi.[4] According to the "Kallikratis" program and its amendment by Kleisthenes I, together with Vlagkada, Katarraktis, Milea and Sgara, it forms the Community of Katarraktis,[5] which belongs to the Municipal Unit of Agnanta of the Municipality of Central Tzoumerka and according to the 2011 census it has a population of 34 residents[6] while according to the 2001 census it had 78[7].
