Romanos (Ρωμανός) Arta
The village of Romanos or in the past also known as Romanou, is a semi-mountainous settlement in the central Tzoumerka of the prefecture of Arta at an altitude of 440 meters[1].
Geography - History
Romanos is one of the seven villages of Tzoumerka, part of the Tzoumerka mountain range. It is located west of the Arachthos River, N.-NE. of Arta at a distance of 47 km.[2] and is built between the villages of Kato Graikiko and Gouriana. It belongs to the prefecture of Arta and the municipality of Central Tzoumerka with headquarters in Vourgareli, in the region of Epirus. Specifically, according to the Kallikratis plan, the village falls under the Municipal Unit of Agnantes and the Local Community of Graikiko and according to the 2011 census it has a population of 39 residents[3]. The other villages of Tzouma are Ano Graikiko, Kato Graikiko, Koukoulia, Gouriana, Selio and Gravia. The village was founded by Souliotes who came to the area from the homonymous settlement of Lakka Soulio after the destruction of Soulio by Ali Pasha. The main occupations of the inhabitants are livestock farming and agricultural cultivation mainly for domestic use.
