Historical information

The toponym of the settlement is probably of Slavic origin. Etymologically, the meaning - interpretation of the word is not clear. Older scholars-traveling historians have recorded various explanations such as <..due to the air Liva..>, <..the highest point-observatory..>, <..coming from the Slavic ljub (beloved) and the aggressive possessive ending -ονο-..> . During the Ottoman Empire, the area was under the protection of prominent Turks and belonged to the Paramythia sub-administration. At the beginning of the 16th century, the Souliot Federation was created, which gained control of many villages in the area. On a map that survives for the development of the Federation (1746 to 1790), the settlement appears as a "Parasouliotiko" village in the Tsarakovista area. Monasteries and churches played an important role during the years of Turkish rule. The Epirus Revolution began in one of them in 1611. In 1920, Lviahovo was incorporated into the Ioannina sub-district and later into the Dodoni province.

Associations and Events

The village has two associations: the Brotherhood of Liviahovoites, based in Athens, and the Cultural Center of Agios Andreas, based in the village (in the renovated school premises). A festival is held in the village on July 19-20, while the Liviachovon gathering also takes place in the village but does not have a fixed date (usually every August before the 15th of the month)
