Katamachi (Καταμάχη) Ioannina
Katamachi is a mountainous village in the prefecture of Ioannina, at an altitude of 640 meters[1][2]
Geographical - historical data
Katamachi is located near the border with Thesprotia on the slopes of the Souli (Vrytzacha) mountains[3]. It is 39 km southwest of the city of Ioannina and 61.5 km east of Igoumenitsa[4]. In the wider area of the village, findings (bronze weapons and tools) of habitation of the area from the Stone and Bronze Ages have been found, the most important of which are exhibited in the Archaeological Museum of Ioannina[3]. At the location of "Domplirou" there are ruins of an ancient fortress which have been classified as a historical monument and archaeological site[5]. Until 1929 it was called Grasdani[6] According to the Kallikratis plan, together with Kakolakkos it forms the local community of Katamachi, which belongs to the municipal unit of Sells in the Municipality of Dodoni and according to the 2011 census has a population of 52 inhabitants[7]
