General information
The settlement was created by Russian monks, who in 1870 built the monastery of Agios Andreas, from which the village took its name. The monastery was abandoned a few years later, in 1919, when its monks were expelled by the "rulers" of that time, while today it has been restored. The monks also began viticulture and wine production in the village, which continues to this day.[7] Until the population exchange in 1923, it had a Greek population,[8] while after the population exchange, 54 refugee families settled in Nouzla.[9] With the Kapodistrias program, it was incorporated into the municipality of Eleftheron and was formerly part of the community of Agios Andreas, which was created by the detachment of Agios Andreas from the community of Eleftheron.[10]
