Pigadia (Πηγάδια) Ioannina
Pigadia is a mountain village in the prefecture of Ioannina at an altitude of 610 meters[1] and belongs to the Katsanochoria of Epirus.[2]
Geographical features - sights
Pigadia is located at the northern foothills of Mount Xirovouni[3], towards the borders of the prefecture with the prefecture of Arta and west of the Arachthos River. It is 35 km. SE. of the city of Ioannina and 31 km. SW. of Pramanta. Sights include the Church of Agia Marina, from 1610, the old elementary school that has been classified as a monument.[4] as well as the location "Skala" at an altitude of 800 meters with a view of the area of Katsanochoria and Tzoumerka[3].
Name - administrative details
The old name of the village was Valtsora, it was officially recognized as a community in 1926 and renamed Pigadia in 1927.[5] According to the Kallikratis plan, it is the local community of Pigadia, which belongs to the municipal unit of Katsanochoria of the Municipality of Voreria Tzoumerka and according to the 2011 census has a population of 115 residents.[6]
