Zoodochos Pigi (Ζωοδόχος Πηγή) Ioannina
Zoodochos Pigi is a mountain village of Tzoumerka in the prefecture of Ioannina, Epirus[1].
Geographical - historical information
Zoodochos Pigi is built at the foothills and heights of Mount Xirovouni. It is located west of the Arachthos River and on the southwestern borders of the Tzoumerka, Peristeri and Arachthos Gorge National Park. It is 48 km. S.-SE. of the city of Ioannina, 40 km. N. of Arta and 2 km. W. of Platanoussa[2]. Sights of the village are the churches of Zoodochos Pigi with frescoes from 1757 and of Agia Paraskevi with frescoes from 1734, which have been declared historically preserved monuments since 1972[3].
The old name of the settlement was Boukori and with this name it was recognized in 1940 and annexed to the then community of Platanoussa. In 1971 it was renamed Zoodochos Pigi[4]. According to the Kallikratis plan, together with Platanoussa and Dafni, they form the local community of Platanoussa, which belongs to the municipal unit of Katsanochoria of the Municipality of North Tzoumerka and according to the 2011 census has a population of 28 residents[5].
