Nistora (Νίστορα) Ioannina
Nistora is a mountainous village in the prefecture of Ioannina at an altitude of 880 meters[1] and belongs to the Katsanochoria of Epirus.[2][3].
Geography - Sights
Nistora is located in the southeast of the prefecture and near the provincial road Ioannina - Syrakou. It is 24.5 km. SE. of the city of Ioannina and 32 km. W. of Pramanta. Sights of the area are the sacred temple of Faneromeni which is located on the homonymous hill, on the road to neighboring Fortosi. It is a three-aisled basilica with a dome which, according to local tradition, was built by Kosmas the Aetolian and its interior has frescoes from 1787.[4] Since 1964 it has been declared an ancient monument.[5]
Name - Administrative
According to local tradition, just outside the village of Kostitsi, at the location "Lati", there was a large settlement, Latio, which was plagued by a plague. From this plague, only four brothers named Kostas, Nestoras, Petros and Fotis survived. These four brothers built the villages that still bear their name today, with various corruptions of course, namely "Kostitsi" (Kostas), "Nistora" (Nestoras), "Patero" (Petros) and "Fortosi" (Fotis). It was officially recognized as a settlement, after the liberation of Epirus, in 1919 as part of the then community of Korytiani.[6] According to the Kallikratis program, together with the settlements of Kostitsi, Fortosi and Patero, they form the local community of Fortosi, which belongs to the municipal unit of Katsanohoria of the Municipality of Northern Tzoumerka and, according to the 2011 census, has a population of 10 residents.[7]
