Pelagia (Πελαγία) Rhodopi
Pelagia is a lowland settlement of Thrace in the Rhodope Regional Unit.[1]
Geographical - historical data
Pelagia is located in the plain of Komotini at an altitude of 40 meters[2]. The village is 26 km. W. from Sapes (seat of the municipality) and 19 km. S.-SE. from Komotini. The Lissos River passes to the north, Mirana is to the west, Nea Petra and Ergani to the southwest.
It is officially mentioned as a separate settlement, after the liberation, in 1924 in the Government Gazette 194A - 14/08/1924, being annexed to the then community of Mirana. In 1933, with the Government Gazette 135A - 06/06/1933, it was designated as the seat of the newly founded community of the same name.[3] According to the "Kallikratis" Program, it is the municipal community of Pelagia, which falls under the municipal unit of Maroneia of the Municipality of Maroneia - Sapes and according to the 2021 census, has a population of 37 residents.[4]
