Agios Charalambos (Άγιος Χαράλαμπος) Rhodopi

Agios Charalambos is a seaside settlement in Thrace in the Rhodope Regional Unit.[1]
Geography

Agios Charalambos is located on the coast of the Thracian Sea at a distance of 33 km E.-SE. from Komotini, 28 km. SW. from Sapes (seat of the municipality) and approximately 4 km. S. of Maroneia, whose port it is[2], where there are still traces of an ancient pier and which is characterized as a fishing shelter[3]. In the surrounding area there are ruins of the Roman and Byzantine eras while to the northeast at the location "Kampana" is the ancient theater of Maroneia.[4] The name of the settlement is due to the small chapel of Agios Charalambos who is the patron saint of Maroneia.[5] It was first officially mentioned as a separate settlement in 1971, being registered in the then community of Maroneia.[1] According to the "Kallikratis" Program, together with Maroneia, Ano Askites, Askites and Platanitis, it forms the local community of Maroneia, which falls under the municipal unit of Maroneia of the Municipality of Maroneia - Sapes and according to the 2011 census, has a population of 3 inhabitants.[6]
