Prasia (Πρασιά) Evrytania
Prasia is a mountainous settlement of Central Greece in the Regional Unit of Evrytania.[2][3][4]
Geographical - historical data
Prasia is located on the northwestern borders with the Regional Unit of Aitoloakarnania and Karditsa. The village is built in the Western Agrafa and the southwestern slopes of Mount Delidimi at an altitude of 850 meters[3] south of the Lakkomata peak (alt. 1,883 m) while south of the village passes the Prasia stream, which is a tributary of the Acheloos. It is 54 km. N.-N.W. from Kerasochori (seat of the municipality) and 93 km. N.W. from Karpenisi. Next to and to the west are Metaxades, south of Fousina and southeast of Vasilesi, settlements that have long been considered settlements of Prasia. The village is referred to since the time of the Ottoman rule as Zelenitsa, which in Slavic means Prasinada or Upper Prasinada, and this includes the settlement of Kyparissi where the "cypress of Prasia" or "cypress of Patrokosmas" is located.[4]
Religious sights are: the church of Agios Nikolaos of the 17th century (a simple single-aisled basilica with a gabled roof with Byzantine-style tiles and adobe roof). Its roof is wood-carved and in the middle there is an icon of Christ Pantocrator with the inscription A. X. X. As well as the 17th-century Church of the Nativity of Christ (a single-nave church of moderate dimensions with a gabled roof and a semicircular niche. Murals are preserved only in the Holy Altar). Both have been declared historically preserved monuments.
Administrative information
It is officially mentioned, after the liberation, with the old name of Zelenitsa in 1836, being annexed to the then municipality of Aperanti. In 1912, with the Government Gazette 261A - 31/08/1912, it was designated the seat of the newly founded community of the same name. In 1928, with the Government Gazette 81A - 14/05/1928, it was renamed Prasia.[5] According to the Kallikrates plan, together with Agios Ioannis Prodromos, Vasilesi, Metaxades and Fousiana form the local community of Prasia, which belongs to the municipal unit of Aspropotamos of the Municipality of Agrafa and according to the 2011 census, as a community it has a population of 273 residents and as a settlement 78.[6]
