Plakoti (Πλακωτή) Thesprotia
Plakoti is a village in the Municipality of Souli[1] in the Regional Unit of Thesprotia, with a population of 80 inhabitants (2021 census)[2] and is built at an altitude of 407 meters[3]. It is found on the old national road Igoumenitsa-Ioannina.
Within the settlement there are small squares connected by alleys as well as many traditional churches (country chapels). Plakoti was mainly a livestock and agricultural village while the main professions of the residents were those of a carrier and olive oil merchant.
Egypt, Canada, Australia and Germany were the first stations of immigration of the residents. Built on a steep slope, the geomorphology of Plakoti resembles an inverted meteor. Every summer, three major festivals are held, that of the Holy Trinity of the Transfiguration of the Savior (August 6) at the homonymous monastery and that of the Dormition of the Theotokos (August 14).
The top attraction of the area is the despotic Holy Monastery of the Transfiguration of the Savior built in the 13th century.[4] The village is also easily accessible for other attractions such as the neighboring Byzantine Ouzdina, Spyropigadia, etc.
