The settlement was recognized in 1919 as Popovo and was designated the seat of the community of Popovo in the prefecture of Ioannina. In 1928 it was renamed Agia Kyriaki. With the Government Gazette 119A – 01/04/1937 it was subordinated to the prefecture of Thesprotia. With the Government Gazette 244A – 4/12/1997 it was detached from the community of Agia Kyriaki and annexed to the municipality of Paramythia. With the Government Gazette 87A – 07/06/2010 it was detached from the municipality of Paramythia and annexed to the municipality of Souli.[2]

Historical information

Near the village is the site of an ancient komis (Hellenistic and Roman times), which was administratively subordinated to the nearby Roman colony of Photiki. The inhabitants of this mountain settlement, which controlled a natural passage to ancient Molossia, were probably engaged in livestock farming and logging, as inferred from the adjacent forest of fir and pine trees.[10]
