Zervochori (Ζερβοχώρι) Thesprotia

Zervochori is a settlement in Epirus, in the Regional Unit of Thesprotia.[1][2]
General information

Zervochori is located at the western foothills of the Paramythia Mountains at an altitude of 400 meters.[1] It is 11 km. S.-SE. from Paramythia (seat of the municipality) and 40 km. E. from Igoumenitsa (via Krystallopigi). In the "Marmara" area, a looted funerary monument has been excavated, the construction of which is dated to the Hellenistic period (3rd century BC).[3] The parish church of the village is dedicated to Saint Nicholas and ecclesiastically it belongs to the Metropolis of Paramythia, Filiates, Giromeri and Parga.[4]

It is officially mentioned after the liberation in 1919, with its old name from the Ottoman rule, as Dragoumi, being the seat of the newly founded community of the same name. In 1929 it was renamed Zervochori.[5] According to the "Kallikratis" program and its amendment by Kleisthenis I, together with Kallithea and Avaritsa, it forms the community of Kallithea Souli[6], which belongs to the Municipal Unit of Paramythia of the Municipality of Souli and according to the 2021 census, 22 residents were registered[7] while in the 2011 census there were 74[8].
