Xirolofos (Ξηρόλοφος) Thesprotia
Xirolofos is a settlement in Epirus, in the Regional Unit of Thesprotia.[1][2]
General information
Xirolopos is located at an altitude of 200 meters[1] and is approximately 6 km. S. from Paramythia (seat of the municipality) and 38 km. E.-SE. from Igoumenitsa (via Krystallopigi). The original houses of the village are built on a hill, where most of its residents lived until 1965, when the newer ones began to be built further north near the Kokkytos River. The parish church of the village is dedicated to Saint George and ecclesiastically it belongs to the Metropolis of Paramythia, Filiates, Giromeri and Parga.[3]
It is officially mentioned after the liberation in 1919, with its old name from the Ottoman rule, as Zelesso, being designated as the seat of the newly founded community of the same name. In 1927 it was renamed Xirolofos.[4] According to the "Kallikratis" program and its amendment by Cleisthenes I, together with Rachouli, it forms the community of Xirolofos[5], which belongs to the Municipal Unit of Paramythia of the Municipality of Souli and according to the 2021 census, 175 residents were registered[6] while in the 2011 census it was 213[7].
