Agios Dimitrios (Άγιος Δημήτριος) Aitoloakarnania
Agios Dimitrios is a mountainous community of the Municipality of Nafpaktia in the Prefecture of Aitoloakarnania and is located on the southeastern side of Mount Ardini in mountainous Nafpaktia. It is included in the "Evinochoria"[2].
Description
The two picturesque lakeside settlements of the community (upper and lower) are scattered in a wooded area on the slopes of the mountain, on the banks of the artificial lake of the Evinos River (area 3.5 thousand acres)[3].
History of Administrative Changes
The first references to the community are found in the Patriarchal Sigils of the Monastery of "Ambelakiotissa" (June 1749)[4] Since 1912, Agios Dimitrios has been the seat of the homonymous community and with the implementation of Kallikrates in 2010, it was incorporated into the Municipality of Nafpaktos. The Agios Dimitrios residents of Athens founded in 1961 a Cultural Association under the name "Agios Dimitrios Nafpaktias Association" whose activities are related to events and community projects, in Athens and in the village, publishing a quarterly newspaper continuously since 1984. The Agios Dimitrios residents living abroad in the USA founded a Brotherhood in 1909 and financed important projects in the village, such as the construction of an Elementary School, etc.[5]. A cultural center named "Nikos L. Kolettas" was founded by the mayor of the area who came from the village, which is used for events and as an exhibition of agricultural tools. The annual events organized are:[6]
Municipal fair on July 26 for the feast of Agia Paraskevi
Traditional Bean Festival
Chestnut Festival in the first ten days of October.
The area, due to the morphology of the terrain, is suitable for alternative tourism.
