Venterikos (Βεντερίκος) Ioannina
Venterikos is a mountainous village in Epirus, in the Regional Unit of Ioannina.[1][2]
Geographical information
Venterikos is on the border with the Regional Unit of Thesprotia and is 55 km W-SW. from the city of Ioannina, 43 km E-NE. from Igoumenitsa, 51 km SW. (via Voutsara) from Eleousa (the seat of the municipality). It is included in the villages of Lakka Souli and is built on the eastern side of the Arganos hill[3] at an altitude of 650 meters[4], southwest of Bereniki, which was previously considered a settlement[2]. The name of the village comes from the Slavic vetrbnb which means "of the wind" and indicates the "place where it blows a lot" or the "place that is in the wind, in a steep place".[3]
Administrative details
It was officially mentioned as a separate settlement for the first time in 1961, being registered in the then community of Vereniki.[5] According to the Kallikratis plan, together with Vereniki, Kato Vereniki and Paleochora, it forms the local community of Vereniki of the municipal unit of Molossos, which falls under the municipality of Zitsa and according to the 2011 census, 28 residents are registered.[6]
