Historical information

Regarding the name of the village, there is an interpretation that it may have Albanian origin and mean fertile peak[3][5].

In 1713, the village's prefect was Io. Tsalamidas[6]. The settlement was two and a quarter hours away by road in 1885 from Prostovitsa, the then seat of the Municipality of Tritaia[7]. In 1903, Christos Koryllos reports that the village was three hours away by road from Prostovitsa and that it had a school (secretariat)[8].

During its period of demographic prosperity, it is reported that residents of the village left and created the village of Velimachi in Gortynia, Arcadia[3].

On 20/04/1835 it was annexed to the then Municipality of Erymanthia[1]. With the Government Gazette 5A of 08/03/1841 it was detached from the Municipality of Erymanthia and annexed to the then Municipality of Tritaia[1]. With the Government Gazette 256A of 28/08/1912 it was detached from the Municipality of Tritaia and designated as the seat of the community of Velimachi[1][9]. With the Government Gazette 244A of 04/12/1997, according to the Administrative Reform "Kapodistrias", it was annexed to the Municipality of Tritaia until 2010 when it was incorporated into the Municipality of Erymanthos (Government Gazette 87A - 07/06/2010) based on the Administrative Reform "Kallikratis"[1].
