Vouvopotamos (Βουβοπόταμος) Preveza
Vouvopotamos is a village in Epirus, in the Preveza Regional Unit.[1]
Geographical - historical information
Vouvopotamos is located on the northwestern border with the Thesprotia Regional Unit and is built next to and east of the Acheron River, south of the Paramythia Mountains, at an altitude of 60 meters.[1] It is approximately 10 km. N. from Kanallaki (seat of the municipality) and 30 km. E. from Parga. North of the village is Glyki Thesprotias and south is Mouzakaiika. Approximately 2 kilometers northeast is the location "Springs of Acheron" which is suitable for rafting, horse riding, hiking and alternative tourism activities.[2]
It is officially mentioned, after the liberation of Epirus, with its old name from the Turkish rule as Nemitsa in 1919 in the Government Gazette 181A-14/08/1919 to be annexed to the then community of Nemitsa. In 1928 with the Government Gazette 81A - 14/05/1928 it was renamed Vouvopotamos.[3] According to the "Kallikratis" Program and its amendment of Kleisthenes I, together with Tsekouri, constitute the homonymous community[4] which belongs to the Municipal Unit of Fanari of the municipality of Parga, while according to the 2011 census it has a population of 388 inhabitants[5].
