Stavrochori (Σταυροχώρι) Preveza
Stavrochori is a settlement in Epirus in the Regional Unit of Preveza.[1][2]
General information
Stavrochori is located towards the border with the Regional Unit of Thesprotia, at an altitude of 20 meters.[2] It is approximately 5 km. NW. from Kanallaki (seat of the municipality) and 23 km. E.-SE. from Parga. The Acheron River passes west of the village while to the northwest is Mesopotamos and to the southeast is Kastri.
It is officially mentioned, after the liberation of Epirus, in 1919 in Government Gazette 181A - 14/08/1919, with its old name from the Turkish occupation as Goritsa, to be annexed to the then homonymous community. In 1927, with the Government Gazette 76A - 02/05/1927, it was renamed Stavrochorion.[3] According to the "Kallikratis" Program, together with Xirolofos, it forms the homonymous community that falls under the Municipal Unit of Fanari of the municipality of Parga and according to the 2011 census has a population of 190 residents.[4] The population censuses after World War II are:
