Tsoukalaiika (Τσουκαλαίικα) Messinia
Tsoukalaiika is a settlement in the Peloponnese, in the Regional Unit of Messinia.[1][2]
General information
Tsoukalaiika is located approximately 5 km southeast of the center of Meligalas (seat of the municipality) and has an altitude of 100 meters[3]. The Tripoli - Kalamata National Road passes through the village, while the Corinth - Tripoli - Kalamata National Road passes through its western edge. To the northeast is Katsaros, to the south is Skala and to the southwest is Stathmos.
As a separate settlement, Tsoukaleika was first officially mentioned in 1908, when it was registered in the then municipality of Oichalia, and in 1912, it was designated as the seat of the newly founded community of the same name. In 1940 the name was corrected to Tsoukalaiika[4] According to the Kallikrates plan and its amendment by Cleisthenes I, they are a community[5] that falls under the municipal unit of Meligala of the Municipality of Oichalia. According to the 2021 census, 150 residents were registered[6] while in the 2011 census it had 306[7].
