Zevgloateio (Ζευγολατείον) Messinia
Zevgolateio or Zevgolatio is located in Messinia, approximately 2 kilometers north of Meligalas[1] and at an altitude of 50 meters[2]. It has a population of 296 inhabitants according to the 2021 census[3], while in 2011 it was 346[4]. There is a railway station in the settlement on the line to Kalamata.
The name
The toponym comes from the preposition zevgilateion. The word is Byzantine (archaic zevgilatis, zevgolato) and means the farm that has a house.[5][6]
Production
It is known for the pasteli that it has produced for many years. Oil and corn are cultivated. The kernel oil mill is also a production unit.
