Astritsa is a lowland village of Karditsa[2] at an altitude of 94 meters[3].
Geographical information - sights
Astritsa is located in the northeast of the prefecture, between the rivers Enipeas (E.) and Sofaditis (W.). To the W.-NW. is Palamas at a distance of 7 km. while SW. Karditsa at 23 km. Sights of the area are considered:
the sacred church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, which is a stone, single-aisled church, with a semicircular niche on the eastern side and dates back to 1740. Since 2002 it has been declared a historical monument[4].
the konaki - manor house "KOEN" located in the center of the village. Since 1995, it has been declared a historical monument because "it is a characteristic example of architecture, as it was formed at the end of the last century in this region and is important for the study of the History of Architecture. It also constitutes a point of reference for the residents of the region, since it is directly linked to the struggles of the peasants against the landowners of Thessaly"[5]
the bridges of Astritsa and Mataraga. Since 1999, they have been declared as historical monuments that require special state protection because "they are remarkable and representative examples of bridge building and road engineering of the last century, important for the study of the history of architecture".
Name - administrative information
During the period of Turkish rule, it was called Bouli and in 1883 it is officially mentioned in the Government Gazette 126A-02/04/1883 with this name being annexed to the then municipality of Fyllos which belonged to the prefecture of Trikkala. It was renamed Astritsa in 1928 with the Government Gazette 81A - 14/05/1928[6]. According to the Kallikratis plan, it constitutes the local community of Astritsa which falls under the municipal community of Fyllos of the municipality of Palamas and according to the 2011 census it has a population of 116 inhabitants[7]. The community is characterized as a rural semi-mountainous settlement, with an area of 10.029 km² (2011).[8]
