Asproneri (Ασπρονέρι) Evros
Asproneri, officially Aspronerion, is a lowland village in the Evros regional unit at an altitude of 120 meters[1].
Geography - History
Asproneri is located south of the Erythropotamos River, 20 km W-NW from Didymoteicho and 32 km SW from Orestiada. Culturally, it is included in the villages of the Maris, a group of indigenous Thracians with their own clothing and linguistic idioms. It was officially mentioned as a settlement in 1924 in the Government Gazette 194A-14/08/1924, designating it as the seat of the then community of Vrysika[2]. According to the "Kallikratis" Program, together with Giatrades, they form the municipal community of Asproneri, which belongs to the municipal unit of Metaxades of the municipality of Didymoteicho and according to the 2021 census has a population of 466 inhabitants[3]. It has a population of 377 inhabitants, down from 538 in 2011[4]. The community is characterized as a rural semi-mountainous settlement, with an area of 23.829 km² (2011).[5]
