Alonia (Αλώνια ) Messinia
Alonia is a settlement in the Regional Unit of Messinia, in the Peloponnese Region, with a population of 161 inhabitants, according to the 2011 Census.[1] Administratively, it is the seat of the homonymous Local Community, the Municipal Unit of Arios, in the Municipality of Kalamata.[2] The Local Community of Alonia is characterized as a rural lowland settlement, with an area of 2.567 km² (2011).[3]
Location
Alonia is located at an altitude of 30 meters[4] and until 1927, it was called Gortsogli.
Administrative changes
21-04-1835, the settlement of Gortsogli is annexed to the Municipality of Arios.[5]
31-08-1912, the settlement of Gortsogli is detached from the Municipality of Arios and annexed to the Community of Gliata.
17-04-1915, the settlement of Gortsogli is designated as the seat of the Community of Gortsogli.
22-12-1927, the settlement of Gortsogli is renamed Alonia.[6]
04-12-1997, the settlement of Alonia is detached from the Community of Alonia[7] and annexed to the Municipality of Arios.[8]
07-06-2010, the settlement of Alonia is detached from the Municipality of Arios and annexed to the Municipality of Kalamata.[9]
