Vlachia (Βλαχιά) Evoia
Vlachia is a village in North Evoia and belongs to the Municipality of Mantoudio-Limni-Agia Anna.[2] According to the 2011 census, the population of Vlachia is 140 residents.
General information
It is located on the eastern side of the island, built on a slope at an altitude of 150 meters, surrounded by a forest overlooking the Aegean Sea. It is approximately 68 kilometers from Chalkida and 11 kilometers from the nearest village of Pili.
Historically, it was liberated from the Turks in 1835. The land of the area was divided among the locals and they created the village. Regarding the origin of the name of Vlachia, there are two versions, one that it comes from the Vlachs who live there and the second from the glyphic waters of the area as a corruption of the word. The Turks called the area "Osnari" or Avlonari.[3]
Today, the village's residents are engaged in livestock farming, agriculture and logging. Some are also involved in tourism, as there is an increase in visitors to the area.
The village's beach is Makrys Gialos (or Potami). Its waters are clear with a combination of coarse sand and pebbles and it is surrounded by a pine forest. There are also coves in the area, many of which are only accessible from the sea.[4]
