Aspropyrgos (Ασπρόπυργος ) Evrytania

Aspropyrgos is a mountainous village in the Prefecture of Evrytania. It is the seat of the homonymous Local Community, and according to the "Kallikratis Program" since 1/1/2011 it belongs to the Municipality of Karpenisi[2]. During the period 1997-2010, based on the "Kapodistrias Plan", it belonged to the former Municipality of Prousos as the seat of the homonymous former municipal district[2][3][4].

Location

The village is located in the southern part of Evrytania, being built at an altitude of approximately 825 to 940 meters, and close to it are the villages of Velota, Vrysoula and Parigoris[5], being 3.5 km, 3.5 km and 6 km away respectively. It is 38 km and 66.5 km from Karpenisi. from Agrinio while the Holy Monastery of Prousos is 14 km away by road.

Name

The village was called Andranova until 1928, when by Government Gazette 81A of 14/05/1928 it was renamed to Fegovrysi[2][6], similarly the then Community[3][6]. The name Fegovrysi was maintained for both the settlement and the then community for only four months, when by Government Gazette 193A of 20/09/1928 it was renamed to Aspropyrgos[2][3][7].

Local community

The local community of Aspropyrgos is characterized as a rural mountainous settlement, with an area of 11,830 km² (2011). It also includes the settlements of Vrysoula and Parigoris.[8]
