Argilochori (Αργιλοχώριον) Magnisia

Argilochori[1] or Argillochori[2] is a small settlement in Thessaly and the Regional Unit of Magnesia.

Geographical - Historical information

Argilochori is located to the northwest of the Almyros plain at an altitude of 162 meters[3]. It is approximately 38 km. SW. from Volos and 13 km. NW. from Almyros (seat of the municipality) while the provincial road Almyros - Farsala passes to its north. In the summer of 1924, after the population exchange of 1923, refugees from Cappadocia and the village of Tsarikli, who were unable to live in Epirus, were relocated to the village.[2]

After the unification of Thessaly with Greece, it was officially mentioned under its old name of Tourkomousli in 1883 in Government Gazette 126A - 02/04/1883, designated as the seat of the then municipality of Itonos, and in 1927 in Government Gazette 306A - 22/12/1927, renamed Argilochori.[4] According to the Kallikratis program, it belongs to the community of Almyros, which falls under the Municipal Unit of Almyros of the Municipality of Almyros, and according to the 2011 census, 67 residents were registered.[5]
