Zarkadochori (Ζαρκαδοχώριον) Magnisia
Zarkadochori is a very small settlement in Thessaly and the Regional Unit of Magnesia.[1][2]
Geographical - Historical information
Zarkadochori is located towards the border with the Regional Unit of Larissa, at the northeastern foothills of the Goura Mountains at an altitude of 340 meters[3]. It is approximately 47 km. W.-S.W. from Volos and 22 km. W. from Almyros (seat of the municipality). After the unification of Thessaly with Greece, it is officially mentioned with its old name of Hasumeli in 1883 in the Official Gazette 126A - 02/04/1883 to be annexed to the then municipality of Itonos and in 1927 in the Official Gazette 306A - 22/12/1927 to be renamed Zarkadochori. In 1940 it was abolished but since 1961 it has been listed again in the municipality of Almyros.[4] According to the Kallikratis program, it belongs to the community of Almyros which falls under the Municipal Unit of Almyros of the Municipality of Almyros and according to the 2011 census 8 residents were listed.[5]
