Agios Nikolaos (Άγιος Νικόλαος) Aleas Argolida

Agios Nikolaos Aleas is a very small village in the mountainous Western Argolis at an altitude of 750 meters.[1] According to the Kallikratis plan, together with Exochi and Platani, they constitute the Community of Agios Nikolaos, which belongs to the Municipal Unit of Aleas of the Municipality of Argos - Mycenae. At the beginning of the 20th century, it is said to have had about 350 residents, all of whom were farmers and livestock breeders, but today, according to the 2021 census, it is inhabited by 3 permanent residents.[2] The local community of Agios Nikolaos is characterized as a rural mountainous settlement, with an area of 54.854 km² (2011).[3]

Geographical features - attractions

Agios Nikolaos is built on the slopes of Mount Farmakas, located in the northwest of Argolida and south of Lake Stymfalia[1] at a distance of 15 km. The village has running, gurgling waters of excellent quality. It is built on very solid (stony) soil and is easily accessible from Kiato Corinth (51 km.), from Corinth via Nemea (68 km.), from Nemea (35 km.), from Tripoli (45.5 km.) as well as from the Sterna junction of the Corinth-Tripoli National Road (20 km.).[4]

One of the characteristics of the village is the old (uninhabited and now dilapidated) stone-built houses, with the stamp (burning) on them of the passage of the Germans during the Occupation.

The "Cultural Association of Agios Nikolaos of Argolida" has been established and is active since 2008. Every year (on the second Saturday of July), the "meeting" is successfully held in the courtyard of the Village School, which is the most important of the Association's events.[5]
